I hope all of you had a great weekend! As the year comes to an end we have a lot of activities coming up. Our country of Study is India and each of you received the fact that your child will be sharing for International Day. Please practice this with your child. If you have not sent in your child's green shirt yet please do so by tomorrow. Field day is next Friday and we will be using the shirts for field day .I will give your child the shirt on Field day . International Day is on May 18th - the class is really looking forward to this day :) We will be reviewing all skills from the school year for the last few weeks of school .

Hello and Happy Monday !!!
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend ! It is hard to believe that we are almost done with the school year . In math this week : We will be working on subtraction . We will be looking at different strategies to solve a subtraction number sentence . Some examples of these strategies are : using your fingers, drawing a picture, using cubes, visualizing the problem(mental math) and using a number line . We will also learn some subtraction vocabulary like : " less than, subtract, how many left, and what is the difference ." In Writing this week : We will continue to work on letters, signs, books and we will begin to look at petitions. These are all different tools your child will use to learn how to solve a problem or convince someone to do something : We will use sentence starters as well : 'I think , I cant resist, I feel, I believe , etc In Reading this week : We will continue to work on reading strategies and building your child' reading stamina . In Social Studies this week : We will begin our final unit "How we organize ourselves" Transdisciplinary theme: How We Organize Ourselves Central Idea: Mindful choices can lead to responsible citizens. Lines of Inquiry: *Choices impact others(causation) *Seeking and considering other's perspectives(perspective) *Identify and assuming responsibility and taking positive action(responsibility) Key Concepts: Causation, Perspective, Responsibility Related Concepts: Impact, Empathy, citizenship Learner Profile: Principled, Balanced Attitudes: Independence, Confidence Transdisciplinary Skills: * Thinking: acquisition of knowledge, analysis, dialectical thought * Social: accepting responsibility, respecting others, adopting a variety of group roles * Communication: all * Self-Management: healthy lifestyle, informed choices, organization * Research: formulating questions, planning, organizing data So excited for this unit as it will teach your child a lot of real-life skills. Sorry for the delay in updating the weebly this week :) I must have spring fever :) 1. We will not be going to the Library this week as the Georgia Milestones testing will begin on Thursday . I will be rescheduling a for a different time next week . 2. In math this week :We will work on the following objective --- I can add and subtract within 5 using different strategies, i.e. pictures, fingers, counters, counting on, etc. Your child will work with addition story problems and use different strategies to discuss |
